In Bagavad-Gita As It Is, 1.10, ISKCON’S sanctimonious editors spell Grandfather Bishma with a capital G, not one time, not two times, but three times in the word for word, in the translation and in the purport, whereas the official line was always that “we want as few capitals as possible” and they falsely quote and misunderstand Srila Prabhupada on the matter. I am a senior myself and we certainly have no qualms respecting elders properly but this instance is just fake. It is actually bizarre because even a primary student will know what to do. Same happens in BGAII 1.11 but not in 1.12, where “grandfather” is lone standing but still refers to Bhishma as well.
We may challenge: Why are you doing this? Have you got some superior insight into this subject matter, INSIGHT EVEN SUPERIOR TO THE ACARYA’S HIMSELF? Or are you just common, entrenched dogmatists and mischief-mongers AND WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAY ??? Let them give a plausible reply! They cant because there is none.
I remember some time ago, when I approached Back To Godhead Magazine management. I was treated as an enemy a priori. It suggests that someone is protecting an (illegally?) acquired monopoly. “Don’t come here this is our domain.” This is the language of barking dogs, as Srila Prabhupada pointed out in respect of frontier crossing. Subsequently the manager send a back channel email to his staff and it ended in my own box, which caused him quite some embarrassment.
On the other hand, the same sanctimonious and sexist editors are fanatically opposed to spelling the pronoun Who with a capital letter when it refers to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, which would make very much sense when it refers to the Supreme Person. Again they falsely quote Srila Prabhupada on the matter. There are other such similar instances like the name of the Goddess of Fortune which Srila Prabhupada spells with capital letters in OT BGAII 1.14, purport, 1.20, and 1.36 for example. But these sanctimonious and sexist editors again will not allow. In 1.40 they reject Srila Prabhupada’s more respectful”ladies” for “women”. These are all direct insults to Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acarya of ISKCON, by the low-class, foolish and conceited. As Bhagavad Gita As It Is is meant to have a global influence it is also an insult to humankind, to use Srila Prabhupada’s own expression.
BGAII 1.15 purport is another example:
In OT Srila Prabhupada writes: “neither there was the presence of the Lord, the Supreme Director, nor the presence of the Goddess of Fortune.”
Our conceited editors however change to:”nor the presence of Lord Krsna, the supreme director, nor that of the goddess of fortune.” VedaBase => Bg 1.15
Capital letters are suppressed on ” the Supreme Director” That is clearly a sign of brainlessness. We may call it stereotyped thinking. It is not real thinking and it starts with Hayagriva and others follow faithfully. And again the same philosophy in respect to the venerable Goddess of Fortune: down, down, down with her, she is a woman, she cannot have capital letters. I trust the Goddess of Fortune will reciprocate accordingly with these low-class, foolish and sexist fellows and their followers.
Additionally, we could apply the same honour logic to Srila Prabhupada Himself as He is the envoy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Srila Prabhupada used to give the example that when the viceroy came to India, because he represents the king, he is giving the same honour and respect as the king himself.
Meaning to say that pronouns referring to Srila Prabhupada should also be with capital letters as is the case with Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Additionally Gurvastaka stanza 7 states: “
saksad-dharitvena samasta-sastrair
uktas tatha bhavyata eva sadbhih
“The spiritual master is honoured as much as the Supreme Lord because He is the most confidential servitor of the Lord.” VedaBase => SB 4.23.18
Now who can clearly adjudicate on the first point?
Srila Prabhupada of course!
In the OT or Original Transcript, Srila Prabhupada writes in the word for word, in the verse and in the purport grandfather Bhishma in lower case. He does not write Grandfather Bishma with a capital G as the editors would have it.
Srila Prabhupada similarly always uses the trendy “brahmin”throughout the Original Transcript (OT) but these sanctimonious and sexist editors again know better and replaced it with the weighty “brahmana”.
In conclusion we may say: What a joke and farce these sanctimonious and sexist editors are as well as a discredit to Srila Prabhupada’s glorious ISKCON movement!
