THOUGHT(S) OF THE DAY. (1)

Thought of the day:

KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS JUST MEANS ONE CUP OF NECTAR AFTER ANOTHER.

There is consequently always a DANGER OF SUFFOCATION and perhaps even a danger of DROWNING in the transcendental ocean of the nectar of devotion :):):)

Krishna Kripa Prabhu likes my praise of Srila Prabhupada here: https://krishnamonk.blogspot.com/2024/08/quotes-from-srila-prabhupada-tributes.html in the 2024 Prabhupada Tribute:

“Dear Srila Prabhupada,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to your global, robust, expert and enduring preaching. “

Thank you for your appreciation, Krishna Kripa Prabhu!

Here is an interesting passage in Srila Prabhupada’s Original BGAII Transcript 3.1. This is the second times it happens. Srila Prabhupada writes:

“O Janardan, O Keshava, why do you like to engage me in this ghastly warfare, if you think that intelligence (in Krishna consciousness) is better than fruitive work?”

OT is available here: https://bookchanges.com/bhagavad-gita-as-it-is-manuscript/

I am specifically referring to the leisurely “why do you like to engage me”. Neither Hayagriva nor Jayadvaita liked this expression. Hayagriva writes “why do you urge me to engage…”, which sounds good and Jayadvaita writes ” why do you want to engage me…”, which is very common.

Srila Prabhupada writes similarly in BG 2.3 OT Purport or in BG 2.3 Version 3, Purport, which are meant to be identical: “but Krishna liked to counter that such sort of magnanimity was only a weakness of his heart.”

We have to consider who is speaking.

On the one hand we have Krishna who is KING. He is the KING of the Kingdom of Godhead, and He is also 16108 times the King of Dvaraka, with His 16108 palaces for his 16108 queens. Just see His mystic power! BG 9.5 “pashya me yogam aishvaram”

And Arjuna is also a thoughtful prince in the line of King Bharata.

“The two different names of address given to Arjuna are also significant. To address him as Kaunteya signifies his great blood relations from his mother’s side; and to address him as Bharata signifies his greatness from his father’s side. From both sides he is supposed to have a great heritage. Great heritage brings responsibility in the matter of proper discharge of duties and as such he cannot avoid fighting.” BGAII  2.14 P.

So we may find a very polite, respectful, refined, polished and aristocratic mood and language between our two heroes of Bhagavad Gita As It Is. And that may be the reason why Srila Prabupada’s uses  “why do you like”.

Mac book dictionary says the word “aristocrat” comes from Greek “aristos” which means “the best”.

In 2.15, Krishna definitely addresses Arjuna as follows: “O best among men (Arjuna), the person who is not disturbed by such happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.” So Arjuna is an aristocrat by definition. So is Krishna because not only is Krishna the best among all personalities of Godhead, but more broadly Krishna is the BEST OF ALL LIVING ENTITIES. Krishna is the leader of all living entities. And who in his sane mind wouldn’t be enthusiastic to accept such a leader! Accept a leader we must. Everyone has one or many leaders in his life. So why not accept the very best of leaders of all: Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead and surrender to Him, as He suggests in the Baghavad Gita:

sarva-dharman parityajya
mam ekam sharanam vraja
aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
mokshayishyami ma shucah

Word for word rendition.
sarva-dharman — all varieties of religion; parityajya — abandoning; mam — unto Me; ekam — only; sharanam — for surrender; vraja — go; aham — I; tvam — you; sarva — all; papebhyah — from sinful reactions; mokshayishyami — will deliver; ma — do not; shucah — worry.

TRANSLATION
Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear.

“The Supreme Personality Who possesses all riches, all strength, all reputation, all beauty, all knowledge and all renunciation is called Bhagavan. There are many persons who may be very rich, very powerful, very beautiful, very famous, very learned and very much detached, but none of them can claim that he is the possessor of all riches, all strength etc. entirely. Such claim is applicable to Krishna only and as such He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. No living entity, including Brahma can possess such opulence, neither can Lord Shiva. Nor even Narayana can possess such fullness of opulence as Krishna. And by analytical study of such assets, it is concluded in the Brahma Samhita by Lord Brahma himself that Lord Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Nobody is equal to or above Him. He is the Primeval Lord or Bhagavan, known as Govinda and is the Supreme Cause of all Causes.” BG 2.2, P, Version 3.

“A pure devotee who has firm faith in the words of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is to be considered a most learned scholar, the topmost aristocrat and the richest man in the whole world. All godly qualities automatically exist in such a devotee. In the preaching work of the Krsna consciousness movement, we, as the servant of the servant of the servant of the servant of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, fully believe in the words of Krsna and His servants, the disciplic succession [Cc. Madhya 13.80]. In this way we are presenting the words of Krsna throughout the world. Even though we are neither a rich man nor a very learned scholar, and even though we do not belong to any aristocracy, this movement is still being welcomed and is very easily spreading all over the world. Although we are very poor and have no professional source of income, Krsna supplies money whenever we need it. Whenever we need some men, Krsna supplies them. Thus it is stated in the Bhagavad Gita (6.22): yam labdhva caparam labham manyate nadhikam tatah. Actually, if we can attain the favor of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna, we do not need anything else. We certainly do not need those things which a mundane person considers to be material assets.”

My suggestion would therefore be that we keep Srila Prabhupada’s expression “why do you like”.

OM TAT SAT

PS. In Macbook dictionary we also find:

kingdom | ˈkɪŋdəm | noun1 a country, state, or territory ruled by a king or queen: the Kingdom of the Netherlands. a realm associated with or regarded as being under the control of a particular person or thing: the kingdom of dreams. 2 the spiritual reign or authority of God. the rule of God or Christ in a future age. heaven as the abode of God and of the faithful after death.

That means they have absolutely no idea where God or Krishna lives. They think He lives in heaven, Lord Indra’s place. They need a good deal of education in this matter. That’s why Srila Prabhupada came and wrote all His books. That’s exactly His purpose-to educate them in God or Krishna consciousness. We have to find out where each and everyone of us fits into this grand education plan of Srila Prabhupada.

The modern communication technology can help us to be Krishna conscious 24 hours / day.

If however we misuse it, it can lead us to hell as well.

Its a matter of choice.

If we add a little turmeric to our rice, the rice becomes a shiny yellow, another opportunity to remember Krishna. Lord Krishna loves to wear yellow garments or pita-vasa.

The Personality of Godhead, appearing on the shoulder of Garuda, seemed like a cloud resting on the summit of the mountain known as Meru. The transcendental body of the Personality of Godhead was covered by attractive yellow garments, and His neck was decorated with the jewel known as Kaustubha-mani. The bodily effulgence of the Lord dissipated all the darkness of the universe.
